Tips & Techniques
Most anglers fish the SLICK lure with a 4/0 Owner® Beast™ or Trokar 3/0 Magnum swimbait hook. The Eye Strike 4/0 Redfish eye works well with an exposed hook. All of these combinations work for long aerodynamic casts and a balanced gliding sink profile that imitate finger mullet, menhaden or shad. A slow retrieve with a twitch every 4-6 reel turns creates an erratic movement that really grabs your target fish’s attention. Use the unweighted hooks for upper water column, shallow or top water conditions and weighted hooks when fishing deeper. When you feel the "thump" PAUSE a moment then react with a strong hook set to drive the hook through the plastic and connect with your target.
The SLICK Jr and Lil SLICK can be rigged with a jig head (1/16 to 1/2 oz), mid weight, or 3/0 twistlock swimbait or worm hook to go weedless. Fish the SLICK Jr & Lil SLICK using swim and twitching retrieves, jigging on the bottom or fishing under a popping cork. We recommend fishing the lightest weight jig head possible based on wind, depth and current conditions. Try the mid-weight hook to change descent from head first to a more horizontal fall profile.
Color choices
Pure Flats Slick Lures come in 3 color combinations: solid, laminate and fire tail to match most all fishing conditions. General recommendations include darker colors for more stained, dark water or on overcast days and lighter or more clear colors for bright days and cleaner water. Mad Mullet (dark green), Cool Beans (light purple/clear), Croaker (gray) and BCat (white/chartreuse tail) are our top 4 selling colors in the SLICK Lure. Cool Beans, Mad Mullet and Swamp thing are the top 3 colors for the Jr & Lil SLICK.
