I fish in Port Mansfield year round. We are blessed with miles and miles of shallow grassy flats. This is the 2nd year after the last freeze and our grass is really growing. So with this much grass and wind we have to battle floating grass all the time. The slick with the 4/0 Beast works extremely well in this scenario, I can cast it a long way in pretty much any depth and work it around, through and over all the grass. Early mornings working it on top or just subsurface has yielded excellent results , trout up to 28” and redfish seem mad it the way they attack this lure! I throw a lot of natural colors ( anything mullet or pinfish imitating) works well in the clearer water. In stained water as the day goes on and the wind picks up, my go to has been Dirty ice and B Cat 92, but without a doubt Tux 320 works in all water conditions! Now as far as the Slick jr is concerned, Ive used it almost exclusively as a sight casting bait for redfish. I have an extremely shallow draft polling skiff that we use in the back lakes and up on the “sand” and rigged with the 3/0 1/16 weighed hook has been money. Goblin and cracked pepper do the most damage. I use a 6’9” Sarge custom with a Shimano Metanium spooled with 30 lb. Braid and a 25 lb fluorocarbon leader. Casting distance is excellent and it’s heavy enough to cast accurately . We have had some 40 fish days in the last 2 months throwing these. I’ll be back Thursday and plan to run out of the east cut and get on the beach and see if we can’t get a tarpon to eat the big one. The tarpon are showing up in good numbers if you can get out there and fish for them. We will see but I’m pretty certain they will eat it. I’ll report back. This is an excellent design , Ive thrown the Corky Devil for years but this design being weedless is a game changer for me. Thanks for a great lure JD Fontenot
